Trip Overview
Canoe Wyoming on the North Platte River near Saratoga, WY, through 33 miles of some of the most remote and varied scenery of any river we paddle. Large, spectacular bluffs and wide-open western vistas border this crystal clear river. Canoeing in Wyoming, you’ll find the wildlife plentiful. It is not uncommon to encounter deer, antelope, blue herons, Canadian geese, a flock of white pelicans and bald eagles in one mellow afternoon on the river. Fishermen will find this to be one of the best trout fishing streams in the West. So don’t forget to bring your fishing pole! (Wyoming fishing license required.)
The area is also rich in the romance of the Old West. You will cross the historic Overland Trail, the wagon trail to the West. In this wilderness area, even the wagon wheel ruts are still visible in the dirt. After hiking past pioneer rock art on the canyon walls, you’ll visit a pioneer graveyard on the overlying bluffs. One can only imagine how they died. The North Platte River is truly a trip back in western history!
In addition, the resort town of Saratoga, WY, is well known for its Hobo Hot Springs, which are open to the public at no charge.
