Message: This is what canoeing in Colorado is all about! Your canoe trip will cover a 30-mile stretch of spectacular canyon country northwest of Vail, CO. A stunning landscape of pine trees and multi-colored sandstone formations with some volcanic intrusions line this exciting section of river that lies just 155 miles from Denver, CO. The Bull Gulch Wilderness Study Area borders the river and provides excellent trout fishing. So don’t forget your fishing rod (Colorado fishing license is required). You’ll find yourself camping in forested areas along the river. After your canoe trip, you might also consider a relaxing visit to Glenwood Springs and their natural hot mineral springs pool and vapor caves, located just 19 miles to the west. This section of the Colorado River features several Class II-III rapids mixed with flat water. At least one experienced paddler per boat is recommended; children should be 13 years of age or older. Colorado River canoeing also provides opportunities to “tether and float” your boat alongside the few, short Class III rapids. http://www.centennialcanoe.com/index.php/trips/trip/colorado_river_upper/
